Hereditary Factor X Deficiency Awareness

October 14, 2021

General News

Let’s spread the word about Hereditary Factor X Deficiency Awareness!

A key way we can all help patients who are struggling with hereditary factor X deficiency is to increase awareness throughout the medical community about the bleeding complications of factor X deficiency and how to recognize this one in a million disease.

Key facts:

  • Up to 80% of women with factor X deficiency have heavy menstrual bleeding.
  • Easy bruising, and joint pain and swelling are also common bleeding complications.
  • A prolonged PT and aPTT is a diagnostic signal for factor X deficiency; if so, a test for factor X may be appropriate
  • If you identify a patient with hereditary factor X deficiency, treatment is available
